Thank you for this vedio, i have a question I have a machine in my company which has PROFINET communication in it's devices, it has 8 devices connected to the plc through Siemens Scalance xb208 switch ,and everything is working ok, but the problem is i have a local ETHERNET network in my company and i wanted to read data from this machine, so i extended a cable from my local network to the Scalance switch and i can read data normally but there is a little problem that every one or 2 minutes the SCALANCE switch led get red(fault) and PLC also for some seconds but the plc keep running and it didn't go to stop mode, all the IP'S are different and at the same subnet but i don't know why when i connect my network to the PROFINET network it make a fault and when i disconnect my network plug, the SCALANCE switch and plc leds became green with no errors I hope you can helpe about that and than you in advanced

Is Profinet IRT also based on the Ether frame 0x8892 and directly communicates between layers 2 and 7? I am slightly confused here. TIA
PROFINET RT has the Ethertype of 0x8892 to send messages directly from layer 2 to 7 , PROFINET IRT employs additional mechanisms for a higher degree of determinism. Still, both communication channels are based on Ethernet.

Thank you for this. Would I be right in thinking that PROFINET over TSN would require special switches? If so , is there any commercially available one from a PORFINET vendor(Siemens) etc. ?
They will need to support TSN, and they will be available broadly through multiple vendors.

4 to 20mA signals are so much more stable and less prone to interference than bus signals.

One more way to remove electromagnetic interference is to lay a cable inside metallic pipe and flexible metallic conduit. This is normally done in cable laid on pipe rack where many cables are running together.

Recently I encountered a Schneider subsidiary brand L&T where their top management level people used to say again and again that Profinet is Siemens proprietary standard and everyone has to pay royalties to Siemens for using Profinet and due to this Siemens is able to exploit their competitors. I was wondering that how can a person working in industrial automation for more than 25 years and still be such a dumb just to sell their low grade product.
It is a myth within the industry that we must debunk often.

Thanks for making the information here so convenient! Something I was hoping to find information on - but haven't so far - is regarding the various connector types used for PROFINET. Some of the PROFINET cables (standard copper) I've seen have very large RJ-45 type connectors on them - I think they are IP20, but I'm not sure. I work for a company that manufactures devices that would go on PROFINET networks, and it would be nice to understand when and where the various connector types are required so we know how much room to allow for the connections. The large connectors cause problems for us, so if we need to allow for them then it helps if I can explain why they are needed. Is there a video or document that would help with that?
